Summer Festival

On Saturday August 7th TTR attended the Summer Festival at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, MD. Featured at the festival were several big named artists, Janelle Monet, B.o.B., Common, Chuck Brown, The Roots, and the headliner Erykah Badu.  Erykah Badu live at Merriwether Post Paviion.

As with most concerts, each artist had an allotted time to perform. Opening the show was Janelle Monet. While Miss Monet is a relative newcomer in the music industry, recently she has seemed to find herself opening for concerts all over the place. With that said, somehow TTR always seems to miss her performance, as she is always wrapping up her performance literally minutes after the concert begins. So if Janelle Monet is on the ticket, be sure to arrive early, because 20 minutes after the show starts, she’ll surely be saying here thank you’s and exiting stage left.

Second to the stage was B.o.B. While I can’t speak for everyone that reads this blog, I can say without a shadow of a doubt, B.o.B. is known for just one song, “Beautiful Girls”. This was obvious by the fact that no one was paying attention until he began to perform his one hit. Oh, we surely can not fail to mention that this d.u.d.e  B.o.B. opened the show just like that Snickers commercial when the guy says, “what’s up Boston…”, and he’s actually in Clevland, Ohio. While the pavilion is located in Columbia, MDCommon hyping the crowd. B.o.B greats the crowd with  “what’s up Boston!!!?????” Moments later I guess he realized his mistake and said, “we’re on the road so much that I have no idea where I am sometimes”. He had to feel like a complete idiot afterwards. Moving right along….

Next up Common. If you have never been a part of a Common audience, you need to be. Common definitely puts it down in his live performances. He enters the stage with a ton of energy and maintains that level through his entire show. Common will take you back to the roots of hip-hop with his musical tribute to all of the legends throughout his entire performance. Check out Common if he ever makes his way to your city.

If you aren’t from the Washington, DC area chances are you won’t understand the deep-rooted passion for the performer who came next.
